HonorHealth Foundation launched the Advancing Philanthropy Physician Awards in 2022 to recognize the vital role doctors play in philanthropy success.
“Many of the donors who give to HonorHealth Foundation made their gift because of a great care experience,” noted Foundation president and CEO Jared Langkilde. “Select physicians have been so supportive, so committed to advancing philanthropy that we wanted to recognize their contributions to our success.
Surprise announcements took place throughout November to celebrate the honorees at their work location.
Advancing Philanthropy Physician Awards - 2022 Honorees
Dr. Mayurkumar Bhakta, Chief Medical Officer, Innovation Care Partners, Network Medical Director, HonorHealth Heart Group. Dr. Bhakta and his wife Tina devote significant time to supporting the John C. Lincoln Medical Center and Desert Mission. They give personally to advance healthcare and community well-being through philanthropy, and promote the power of philanthropy among his colleagues.
Dr. Todd Levine, Medical Director, Bob Bové Neuroscience Institute at HonorHealth, was among the first HonorHealth physicians to recognize the power of grateful patients and their stories. He was instrumental in supporting the campaign to build the Bob Bové Neuroscience Institute at HonorHealth, from donor tours to making his own philanthropic commitment.
Dr. Priya Radhakrishnan, Vice President & Chief Academic Officer, HonorHealth, partners with the Foundation, helping to secure millions in grant funding, including complex federal grants. She has also been instrumental in help us secure endowments for specialty fellowships and raise program funds to bring expert medical care and social services to the most vulnerable in our community. She also makes her own personal gift each year.
Dr. Michel Sucher, Fellowship Director, HonorHealth Integrated Addiction Medicine, who joined HonorHealth nearly 50 years ago, working first as an emergency physician at Scottsdale Osborn then helping to open the Shea campus, eventually serving as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Though he is now retired, his service to HonorHealth continues. He and his wife, Dr. Suzanne Sucher, have established a charitable endowment to secure the future of addiction medicine and emergency services for our community.
Physician and Foundation leaders served as judges for this inaugural award, including Drs. John Neil, Kimberly Chia and Tiffany Pankow.
“Reading the nominations reminded me of the many ways HonorHealth physicians go beyond their formal clinical role to also give time and resources in different ways to benefit the community we serve,” remarked Dr. Neil, HonorHealth executive vice president, chief physician executive and network strategy officer. “When physicians support our culture of philanthropy it helps the Foundation engage donors in our work and inspires them to give generously to advance healthcare.”
Each of the four honorees received a stunning sculptural award, designed and created by local artist Joe Ray, featuring a copper disk with the Advancing Philanthropy logo, secured by a natural local amethyst on a walnut base.
The awards were presented in front of each physician’s staff with gratitude for the way they embody the pillars of the Advancing Philanthropy Physician Award: philanthropy, leadership, volunteerism and advocacy.
