HonorHealth Foundation - 2024 Impact Report - Cancer Care x-rayMaking great care possible is just the start!

Demand for quality cancer care in the Valley is growing proportionately with the staggering increase in population we’ve seen in recent years.

In 2023, HonorHealth announced a new name for its growing oncology program: HonorHealth Cancer Care. The simplified name encompasses all oncology services in Arizona and makes it easier for people to find the exceptional care they need.

The program’s flagship location, at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center on the campus of HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea, celebrates a legacy of generosity by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust.

This location also features the Diane and Bruce Halle Clinical Pavilion, offering complete treatment and support services, and the adjoining Debi and Jerry Bisgrove Research Pavilion, where breakthrough clinical trials are conducted. An enclosed pedestrian bridge connects the two buildings, literally symbolizing the “bridge between care and cure.”

We are proud to be a key part of HonorHealth’s prestigious accreditation for comprehensive cancer programs by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

Accomplishing the incredible!

There are tens of thousands of oncology patients who have received care or services from HonorHealth Cancer Care who will never know the part you played in their healing.

But we know and we are grateful. YOU help find cures, save lives and transform healthcare through your unique philanthropy and vision.

More than 50,500 Americans will die this year from pancreatic cancer, making it the third leading cause of cancer-related death behind lung and colon cancers. Only about 11 percent of those diagnosed with this type of cancer survive more than five years.

One of the primary reasons for the dismal survival rates in pancreatic cancer is that patients are usually diagnosed in late stages when the disease has already spread to other parts of the body.

Last year, in a potential breakthrough that could extend patient survival, Dr. Erkut Borazanci, medical director of the Cancer Research Division at HonorHealth Research Institute, was part of an international team — led in part by HonorHealth Research Institute — who devised an investigational blood test that might one day help doctors detect pancreatic cancer earlier.

Powered by generosity, we are transforming and saving the lives of patients who typically have had little — if any — hope

HonorHealth Foundation - 2024 Impact Report - Cancer Care - MagdalenaYour generosity in action

Magdalena is a realtor, personal trainer, gym owner, translator, writer, avid traveler and hiker and former tri-athlete.

She is also a proud breast cancer survivor and grateful HonorHealth Cancer Care patient.

Magdalena received her treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center and credits HonorHealth Cancer Care with saving her life.

“After the initial diagnosis, my general practitioner recommended Dr. Moorthy to me,” offers Magdalena. “I made the call and within 24 hours I was meeting with her. Dr. Moorthy and her entire team made it so easy and scheduled everything for me, which took a huge burden off me emotionally.”

Opting for a double mastectomy, Magdalena underwent surgery on November 29, 2022. With the help of her medical team, family and friends, she recovered nicely and took physical therapy into her own hands.

Starting in March 2023, she returned to one of her favorite activities — hiking — and spent four days in Joshua Tree. In May she traveled to Portugal and Morocco and then later hiked Kauai and Canyonlands.

“For me, I am now telling everyone that prevention and early detection go together. Get those scans every year,” urges Magdalena.
